Animal survivors 2013 videos.

17 Jul

Last June I attended the ACVIM Forum held in Seattle, WA.

Added to the General Programm, the Animal Survivors event is a meeting highlight.

I was amazed at how much the owners of these animals and the animals themselves were bond.

This bond made them find the best professional help and keep fighting with the help of a committed veterinarian.

I would like to share these stories with you.

We as vets achieve successes like the ones I will share with you in the following videos. But our everyday practice also brings us many attempts that do not reach the “success” stage. The animals that survive difficult conditions are a strong motivation for us and the gratefulness of their owners is an added gift for us.

Thanks to Jeff and Nicole, the owners of Baxter, who survived a spinal  tumor.

Thanks to Betsy and George, the owners of Obie, a Labrador who is living a happy life after beating an oral cancer.

Thanks to Kate and Matt, the brave owners of Jackson, who died 9 days before the interview after 3 years of a good quality of life in spite of his original disease. In my opinion, this is the best of these series of stories.

Thanks to Laurie and Manny, the owners of Lucy, a Jack Russell Terrier with  multiple problems that is overcoming all of them.

Enjoy!

The Animal Survivor video series honors amazing animal survivors who beat the odds because of advances in veterinary internal medicine. With the help of their owners, a general practitioner, and an ACVIM Board-certified Veterinary Specialist, these animals overcame life-threatening illnesses to lead a healthy life once again. Each animal has a unique story of survival made possible by specialty veterinary internal medicine. The Animal Survivor program is an initiative of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM), whose mission it is to enhance animal and human health by advancing veterinary internal medicine through training, education, and discovery,  and the ACVIM Foundation.
